| Dual Battery ConceptThe ever increasing number of electronic systems and convenience equipment in cars such as electric windows, seat heating and safety features are continually increasing the demand made on the supply of electric power. For this reason, the Phaeton and the Touareg, for example, depending on engine version and equipment, are supplied with a dual battery concept comprising a starter battery and an onboard power supply battery. Under normal operating conditions, the starter battery supplies the starter motor with power and the onboard power supply battery is responsible for the electrical consumers. A separate onboard power supply control unit constantly monitors the charge status of the batteries and regulates the levels between them if one battery does not have sufficient power available. |
